Lakes Vikings at Flavours of Fingal Festival July 2023

Lakes Vikings will provide a Viking age living history village where Viking families, warriors and artisans will live and work during the festival weekend. They will tell festival goers the story of how Vikings lived in Ireland 1000 years ago and the sights, sounds and smells in the camp will bring those stories to life.

Some of the highlights are a 40 foot long ship that will be on display (one of the stars in the Vikings TV series), warriors will perform spectacular battle sequences and fighting skills with steel weapons & battle shields, and children can enjoy treasure hunts to find the buried goodies.

You can get up close to ravens and birds of prey (fee applies), or have your Runes read by a Shaman and our cook will demonstrate a typical kitchen from medieval times.

At our Have-a-go Archery and Axe throwing, each participant will be taught how to use a traditional bow and get to shoot 3 arrows or throw 3 axes at a target.

A number of Irish artisans will have hand made goods on display and for sale including:

  • A skilled wood turner reproducing Viking & Celtic artwork
  • A silversmith displaying beautiful pendants and rings, like those he made for the stars in the recent Northman movie.
  • An Irish blacksmith of renown will demonstrate his skills at the forge & display his works that are inspired by myth & legend.
  • An archaeologist with an extensive knowledge of medieval Irish pottery will talk about her replica pieces.
